5 Tips for Summer Entertaining

|

It’s summertime! And this season usually means plenty of gatherings with friends and family. Whether you’re socializing at a BBQ (we love a good backyard BBQ - we are accepting invitations...) making dinner for the whole family at the beach, or just enjoying the sunshine on a Saturday, we’ve got some healthy entertaining tips for you!

Hopefully, these tips help when you’re preparing for your next gathering! Be sure to watch the video below, and let us know what you’re serving this summer in the comments!  We hope you have a happy and healthy summer!

1. Swerve Your Dessert

Typical desserts are loaded with sugar and calories. Substituting Swerve for sugar in your favorite recipes will create a healthier dessert that tastes just as delicious as the original version!

In the summer, we love serving berry-forward and refreshing, cold recipes, like these cupcakes with Strawberry Frosting or this easy No Churn Lemon Ice Cream.

2. Offer Plenty of Unexpected Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are naturally low in calories, but high in nutrients, fiber, and water. They are a refreshing way to fill you up without any added salt or sugar. But the worst thing you could do is bring a boring vegetable tray to a party! Maximize taste by chopping and slicing fresh fruit and veggies. Bring unexpected options like mango, kiwi, zucchini, bell peppers or radishes to add a little pizazz to your table! These fruits and veggies are not only colorful, but are packed with nutrition and great taste. And don’t forget the dips! Hummus and pesto are always winners.

3. Grill, Don't Fry

Summertime is the perfect reason to whip out the grill! By grilling instead of frying, you’ll avoid excess calories, starchy batters, and bad fats. But we know the real excuse to grill: BBQ Sauce! And Brown Swerve is your secret ingredient to the best tasting, lowest sugar BBQ Sauce around. We also love this Chipotle Whiskey version!

4. Choose Your Vessel Wisely

No gathering is complete without cheese. Mmmmmmm, cheese. Cheese, though, needs a vessel, and some vessels are healthier than others. Choose a seedy, whole grain cracker option to fill up on fiber and nutrition. Or, reach for that veggie tray! Cucumbers, red bell peppers, and carrots are excellent paired with different cheeses and dips.

5. Skip the Sugary Cocktails

Most social gatherings include alcohol, but they can be loaded with sugar, especially if you’re using any sort of store-bought mixer. Opt for dry wines (like a crisp Sauvignon Blanc or nice Pinot Noir), light beers, or make your own delicious cocktail with fresh fruit, herbs, and Swerve! We love a Classic Margarita or Watermelon Mojito in the summer! You can also use these recipes and just leave out the alcohol to make a delicious mocktail for those that aren’t drinking.
