Maple Sage Breakfast Sausage Patties
I never used to like breakfast sausage that much but I’ve become increasingly fond of it lately. Especially maple-flavoured breakfast sausage. I don’t know what it is about that sweet-savoury combination, but it just seems ideal for a morning treat. However, most maple-flavoured sausages are filled with junk. Commercial brands tend to amp up the sweetness with added sugars and include all sorts of additives and preservatives. And maple syrup may be natural but it’s not kind to the blood sugar or the waistline. Can’t I just have my sausage without all the extras? You don’t need a sausage maker to whip up your own healthier breakfast sausages. Form them into patties, fry them up and you’re in hog heaven. We keep the carbs and sugars to a minimum here with a little Swerve for sweetness and a little maple extract for flavour. Suddenly breakfast sausage is a health food! How did that happen?
